Titian Redwood Tree- 84 images in 1

This is an amazing photograph of a Redwood tree that is in the most recent National Geographic magazine. Please Check out the video here http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/video/player#/?titleID=nichols-redwoods-gatefold&catID=1 This is an image that is changing the way photography is being produced. There is 84 images stitched together in 120hrs to create a seamless image of a giant Redwood tree. There is a very inventive contraption that holds three cameras and 6 remote triggers on a gyroscope attached to cable that will lift it 300 feet in the air. Stitching images together is gaining a presences in the world of photography. With the introduction of the Giga-pan camera that automatically takes photos with any standard digital camera and stitches them together to create a massive file. You can seemingly zoom into this images forever. http://gigapan.org/ These massive files will change the process of a photographer at any level. I just hope we dont see them showing up on facebook with a bunch of drunk girls.

Green Gallery

I have talked to the Green Gallery in Riverwest and I am trying to set up a time we can show at there gallery. I will hopefully have more information this Wednesday.

Support for a house fire

Eric one of focus officers had a tragic occurrence this weekend. His house burned to the ground. He is waiting to see if he lost his photographs. His computer and hard drive both sustained fire and water damage so we all should cross our fingers for him. Eric and his roommates lost about 90% of there belongings. A lot of photo and Video equipment was lost in the fire. He is trying to get his life back together and will be missing the meeting this week.

I am proposing that we have our show this semester in his household honor. We should try to raise money, through print sales, for the items lost in the fire.

Eric we are here for you support. Get your life back together and come back to us as soon as possible.

Recent Work

I've been making very little work lately because of the long hours and rigors of being an apprentice, but this is a series I made under moonlight in Michigan a couple of weeks back.

Just because you never see daylight, doesn't mean you can't still shoot. I apologize for the small image.

MoCP : Reversed Images, Opening Reception 9/24/2009

Good evening members of focus, glad to see you all are getting along well. Your officers look like great candidates this year, I'm impressed by their drive.

Thought I would let you all know that there is an opening reception tomorrow at the Museum of Contemporary Photography.

MoCP always has great shows and the opening receptions are a good time. It's a great way to see some good art and meet like minded individuals from Chicago.

If anyone would like to come down I'd be happy to meet you at the museum after I get off of work at 5:00, I may only be able to stay a few minutes but still, I would be delighted to see any of you.

I wish the best for you all this year and please know you have a resource in Chicago, I'm available for questions, advice, and I'm always up to go shoot some photographs.

Spring 09 wrap up

Thanks all for a great semester. The check off votes from the recent student votes have been tallied and 19 of us managed to check off focus which brings us 90.25. Thats wonderful!! We have two new officers on board (welcome, Stephanie and Eric), along with Corey and myself still. During the summer, keep your eyes and ears out for possible show locations, and any ideas that we might want to strive towards.

We have also started a Flickr group to share everyones work - so if you are on flickr, the groups link is:

depending how everyone feels about it, if everyone creates a flickr account, we may switch the blog to there instead, as you are able to post announcements and things of the sort.

Show Take-Down, and Chicago

It sounds like we have a good confirmation on plans for the Chicago trip. PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS EMAIL SO WE CAN FIGURE OUT WHO IS GOING!

We are planning the trip for SUNDAY APRIL 26TH

1. We want to take the METRA train from WAUKEGAN (changed from Kenosha because the times it departs and arrives are not doable for our schedule), which is only $5 roundtrip on weekends, so that would be more cost effective than the Amtrack from milwaukee

We need to figure out:
Who will be going
Who would be able to DRIVE to Waukegan (and how many fit in your car)

Admission is $7 WITH STUDENT ID. (dont forget yours.)
There are free group tours. They start at specific times, and there are a few different types. We can all discuss this at the next meeting. Please take a look at the museum website to see if there is anything interesting to you. If someone would like to contact them and ask about specific group tours, that would be wonderful. Perhaps let them know we are a photography group and would be interested in a more detailed talk about photo work they have there:

4. Other random notes: some of us would like to stay down there and get dinner. Depending on how many we have, we would probably want to call ahead and make reservations/warn the restaurant a large group will be coming in. Depending on how many people want to go, if anyone is unable to stay later for dinner, we could go in groups. Say we have four cars of people, and one car had to return early, we will figure that out when the time comes around.
Train: $5, MOCA: $7 - that is only $12 for general everythingness. So factor in food, and if you feel like being nice and chipping in a little for your driver.
I think leaving milwaukee around 9am would be ideal if we want to really get a lot out of the day.
